The title of Doctor Honoris Causa, which in Latin means “for the sake of honour,” is an honorary distinction conferred by the Orthodoxa University of Philosophy and Culture (UOFC) upon individuals who have distinguished themselves through extraordinary contributions in areas such as philosophy, culture, theology, education, or humanitarian causes.
This honour recognises exceptional merit regardless of formal academic qualifications and represents one of the highest distinctions an educational institution may confer.
Unlike an academic doctorate, an honorary doctorate does not require formal study. It is awarded on the basis of the impact and relevance of the honouree’s work. Recipients may use the abbreviation “Dr. h.c.” in their signature, or “Dr. h.c. mult.” if they have received multiple honorary doctorates.
However, the title does not in itself authorise participation on master’s or doctoral examination committees, unless otherwise expressly indicated.
The Doctor Honoris Causa title is awarded worldwide to individuals whose work has transformed their fields. Examples include:
Albert Einstein: Honoured by the University of Oxford in 1931 for his revolutionary contributions to physics.
Nelson Mandela: Recognised by several universities for his struggle for human rights and peace.

The conferral of the Doctor Honoris Causa title by UOFC follows a rigorous evaluation process. Applicants must submit a biographical curriculum vitae together with a photograph for review.
After approval, recipients will receive their diploma by post, without an in-person ceremony. Honourees are asked to submit a photograph wearing formal attire, holding the diploma in an appropriate setting, for publication on our official page.
